Raeford, North CarolinaJanuary 11, 2017The Carolina Horse Park is set to kick-off  2017 with a busy winter season of fantastic competitions and schooling opportunities. From January through March, the Park will host a number of educational Pipe Openers and Schooling Days in addition to National and International eventing competitions.

The Park will once again offer a variety of informal schooling competitions for equestrians in the Sandhills to prepare for the 2017 season with Pipe Openers. These Pipe Openers will be hosted on January 14th and February 18th and will feature Combined Tests at the Green as Grass through Advanced levels as well as Dressage Tests of Choice. The Pipe Openers will serve as the first two competitions in the Five Points Combined Tests Series, which will recognize the horse-and-rider combination with the lowest average score as the 2017 champions at the Seasons at The Grove Combined Test on May 27th.

The first of four Winter Schooling Days will be held on January 18th with Dressage, Show Jumping and Hunter schooling. Additional Dressage and Show Jumping only Schooling Days will be held on January 28th, February 8th, and March 4th.  

The Carolina Horse Park has teamed up with the Secrist Farom for the Running Start Derby Cross Championship Series. The series will consist of seven Derby Cross competitions held at both the Park and Running Start including the year-end Championship. The Series gets underway with 2017 competition on February 4th with the Running Start Derby Cross at the Secrist Farm in Vass, North Carolina.

The Southern Pines Horse Trials will kick-off the 2017 eventing season in Area 2 on March 11-12. National level competition is set to be held at the Beginner Novice through Preliminary levels in addition to Beginner Novice through Advanced Combined Tests. The Southern Pines Horse Trials will also serve as the first event in the three-part Carolina Eventing Challenge.

The winter season comes to a conclusion March 22-26 with the fourth annual Cloud 11 ~ Gavilan North LLC Carolina International, which is again set to host International CIC one, two, and three star eventing competition as well as National divisions at the Training through Advanced levels. In 2017, the Carolina International will once again host the best horses and riders in North America, including Olympic and World Championship medalists, provide outstanding hospitality and award more than $65,000 in prize money.
